Passage of time

In this still life, I decided to take Inspiration from the vanitas style which focused on mortality and the Inevitability of death. in my work i created my own still life using the meaning and similar Symbolism to show my own Experience with death and its effect on me after my nan passed away. the main focus in this composition is the clock which is my great aunts clock (My nans sister). i wanted to use this clock as it was always a part of my life until it stopped working. the time shown on the clock is the time i found out my nan died. beside this i used the candle to Symbolise my own life which still continued to move on but also light up this space to create a warm an inviting Atmosphere and making one think. Included in the work were roses which were the colour roses we had at the funeral which symbolise once again the shortness of life which is seen throughout this whole work through objects which are personally to my own Experience but inviting to anyone and they're Experiences. It also shows the Necessity of living in the moment and experiencing all we can as time is all we have. i believe this goes with the theme of "this is Imagination" in a slightly different way when it Relates to death as i think when someone passes away one of the first stages of grief is denial and how this can possibly be real.
