An ode to Greece

My Aim In This Piece Was To Translate Images Of My Favourite Greek Things Into Lino Prints. I Was Pleased With The Way The Positive And Negative Images Worked, So The Evzone And Parthenon Horse Were Mostly Black And Balanced With The Hydra Appollo And Evil Eyes. Initially I Planned To Do Four Rows Of Five Lino Prints Each 10x10cm Which Would Give A Finished Size Of Work Just Under A2 Size But When I Completed The Four Strips. I Decided To Add Another Row To Make A Square Formation Which Was More Like The Andy Warhol’s Screen Print - Portraits Of The Artists 17 Which Inspired Me. I Did My Colour Studies Prior To Making This Piece, I Decided To Use A Neutral White, A Stone Colour Inspired By The Acropolis And Two “Greek” Blues Inspired By My Evil Eyes. I Decided To Use Gold For The 5th Strip Inspired By My Greek Jewellery & The Apollo Sun Sculpture From Hydra. I Think It Gives A Nice Lift To The Finished Piece As The Bottom Strip. Some Of My Images Came Out Patchier Than Others When Printing. I Actually Like The Patchy Effect, But I Was Constrained By My Finish Because I Printed The Linos On Strips Of Card, So Some Turned Out Better Than Others. I Did Have To Print Some Strips More Than Once Where One Image Turned Out Substandard. I Could Have Printed Each Image Individually, So I Had The Best Quality Prints, But I Like Them This Way, A Little Like Old Fashioned Camera Film Negatives. I Did Try Printing On Acetate To See If This Technique Would Work As I Liked The Shiny Smooth Finish And Again This Was Like The Warhol Image, But The Lino Ink Was Slightly Smeared And Also The Shiny Effect Was Lost. I Decided To Use A Sheet Of Acetate To Give The Shiny Finish Similar To Andy Warhol’s Image. ( Portrait Of The Artists 17 Is Actually A Light Box). This Entire Piece Was My Inspired By My Love For Greece And Ancient Greek History And Architecture-Buildings Such As The Parthenon Have Really Been An Inspiration In My Artistic Journey. I also am very passionate about the repatriation of the Parthenon Friezes from England which were stolen by lord Elgin in the 1800s this has also inspired my artwork. Apologies i dont have a photograph of me with my art so instead ive included a photograph of before i added the acetate to my piece.
