These bud vases were made on a lathe, which is a machine that spins a piece of wood around quickly, the wood is then cut using razor sharp chisels to get the desired vase shape. The next step was to drill a hole in the top of the vase to insert an acrylic tube so that it can hold water for fresh flowers. It is then finished with bee’s wax which seals the timber and stops it from cracking. I imagined it full of summer blooms when I was making it.
