12-15 Category • 2024In My Drawing Labelled “Costumes” A Select Few Colors Are Chosen. Red, Pink, Blues, And Greys. My Oil Pastel Drawing Features Three Faces And An Eye. All There Faces Are Self Portraits Of My Pulling My Skin, Essentially Trying To Escape My Costume. These Days I Feel Like Young Adults Put On A Costume As Part Of Their Daily Routine, No One Has True Character In Fear Of Being Judged, And If You Truly Be Yourself Your Viewed As An Outcast. So By My Pulling My Skin, Im Escaping The Costume I Put On Every Morning, Im Ripping The Blues And Pinks To Finally Shine The Bright Neon Colours I Truly Am. The Charcoal And Pencil Drawing Features Me Touching My Lip. This Is Not A Symbol Of Silence But It Represents The Ability To Use Your Lips To Speak. Notice How Im Touching My Lips In The Grey Drawing And Nearly Touching My Lips In The Coloured Ones. This Symbolises How If You Blend In With The Crowd (By Being Black And White) You Can Speak But Its Not Your Truth. However, In The Coloured Drawings Your Just On The Cusp Of Being Yourself, You Have A Little Bit Of Indididuality, Some Colour, But Still Cannot Truly Be The Shining Bright Star You Are. I Hope When People See This Drawing They Feel Represented, They Feel Seen, Heard, And Resonate With The Feeling Of Hiding In A Costume You So Desprately Are Trying To Find The Zipper Of. I Hope One Day We Can All Stop Being Dark Blues And Pinks And Just Shine Neon Or Whatever Colour YOU Decide!
