My art piece is about how people’s imagination and talent can often be exploited in the creative industry. It is a visual representation of feeling unable to break free and of being taken advantage of. Corrupted hands and threatening dark shapes reach toward the figure, who is unable to truly express itself. I aimed to capture helplessness and defeat in the artwork, and to convey the idea that the twisted, faceless hands view imagination as a resource to be exploited for their own benefit. My goal with this piece was to show an alternative interpretation of the brief which showcases the stark reality of many people’s experiences, with a slightly more mature tone than the theme ”This is Imagination” was leaning towards. I was visually inspired by tarot cards, which often focus on one central figure with many smaller things around them, along with a stylised and flat-looking appearance. Such cards are often filled with symbolism, which I attempted to include in my artwork.
