Our art piece is a giant giraffe and its calf made from recycled materials and to help sustainability and nature. The students age range from 8/12 fort class to sixth class attend an after school art club Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Materials used. Duct tape, PVA glue, cardboard, pins, second-hand clothes from a charity shop markers, tracing paper, scissors, Print stick and ribbon. We used bed sheets as the backing and stuck that to huge cardboard boxes then we drew out the giraffe shape and all its patterns we traced the patterns with tracing paper and then transferred them to the material and cut it out labeling each one with the child's initials so not to get confused. in the end it was like a giant puzzle which was great fun putting back together, it was a challenging but really fun art project. We also incorporated butterflies and bumblebees as these are pollinators and the butterfly is an indicator species. The kids involved are very talented and love arts and crafts. This is our second time entering this competition we did a giant robot last year called Bob it was similar in size. Our beautiful giraffes now resides in the lobby of Pope John Paul II national school in malahide so as all the children will get to appreciate this piece as they enter the school we are already excited for next year's project.
