12-15 Category • 2026Chrysalis is a piece designed to represent how even when death lingers life goes on and how in nature it is a never-ending cycle of death to life, the butterfly and moth symbolize the name of this artwork by representing how they withdraw from the world (symbolizing the death) to when they emerge again (to represent how life always comes back) The skull lays on the ground of a bog-area which we chose because of the fact that bogs often preserve human remains over the centuries! and so it ties in nicely to our own native Irish nature. The flowers represent the new growth and how nature is truly inevitable and that its life will always persist. The nighttime scene is meant to create a darker background to show a day coming to an end and yet the life shown is the promise of another day where time will go on.
