Art is a new subject in CBC Kilkenny thanks to having more room in our brand new school. This group of First Years are the first group of students who are doing art in this school in around 6 years so its been great to have them working together. Students have been working with theme of Growing Identities. They have taken inspiration from natural Elements such as trees, seashells and leaves as well as developing their portrait skills in clay. Students started by drawing their own Portraits and natural Elements through observational drawings. Then they began working clay, feeling the tactile nature. They began modelling facial features such as the eyes and nose and then began constructing their pots. Students worked with handbuilding skills, rolling out flat slabs, cutting flat coils and then joining them together by Scoring and slipping to create their forms. The work was fired in the kiln and then glazed to create a nice effect. Students loved working with clay and have got to show other years what art is like in the CBC. Thanks
