Group Category   •  2026
This work has been completed by the first year art class at CBC Kilkenny. This first year group is the first art class in CBC Kilkenny with art returning to the curriculum thanks to the construction of our new school. Students learned about the entire clay process from primary source observational drawing, designing for 3D work, hand building skills and finally glazing. The theme for this project was 'Growing Identities', to reflect the students changing surroundings and the constant changes in nature around them. Students drew leaves, seashells and other natural materials as inspirations as well as working on their own portraiture drawings. Students combined these drawings into a design for their plant pot heads. They began their clay working by Practicing modelling various textures from their primary source objects. They hand built their works through rolling out flat slabs of clay and then creating flat coils to create their vessels. From this point they added their facial features and any remaining textures. Their work was fired twice in the kiln, the first time for the bisque firing and the second for the glaze firing. The class loved working with clay and enjoyed exploring texture, form, proportion and various clay techniques. Their work has shown to other students Across the school what art class is like and what's possible when we get creative
