The boys & girls in Mrs Dunne’s 5th Class created "Jake the Snake." He was inspired by class projects that we did in December on Living Things – Animal Life. Jake was 100 % created from recycled materials. We used: Empty kitchen paper rolls, old newspaper, ties/string/ribbon, bottle tops, empty cereal box, shredded paper (old RTE Guide!) We used 24 empty kitchen paper rolls, each roll representing a child in the class and making up the parts of the body of the snake. The rolls were covered with newspaper to create colour and texture, tied together with old ties and string from Christmas wrapping and crackers. Bottle tops were added along the back of the snake to create scales. The head of the snake was made from an empty cereal box and a red Christmas ribbon used for the tongue. Jake the Snake was placed on a school table and framed with shredded paper. A sign with his name was created using an empty cereal box, stuffed with newspaper and his name written using cut up paper. Each child in the class had a role to play in creating Jake the Snake. We loved working together and we are very proud of their creation. This is Jake the Snake! We hope you love it, too!
