8-11 Category • 2026For my art piece, I used the simplest of materials to create not only my perspective of nature and the animal world but also the beautiful creatures that inhabit it. I used an A4 page and acrylic markers. All my life I have heard of the damage caused to nature and it's surroundings as a result of our actions. I personally feel very strongly about this issue as it brings me much sadness to know that we are the cause of this hurt to the animal population and earth. Each window represents a different aspect of nature and our impact on it which includes climate change and social cruelty. The first window shows a koala being rescued from a wildfire by a volunteer firefighter. Underneath, is the second window which depicts the rapidly expanding and largely unregulated shark fin trade which is one of the most serious threats to shark population worldwide. The third window portrays zoochosis which is a psychological condition that affects wild animals held in captivity leading to repetitive, compulsive behaviours not seen in the wild. The fourth window interprets animal testing on a rabbit. The fifth window describes a forest fire which is an unplanned, uncontrolled and unpredictable fire in an area of forest. The sixth window shows the melting ice caps caused by global warming and how it is threatening the polar bears. The sixth window portrays a whale swimming in it's polluted habitat. The seventh window shows deforestation which is the permanent clearing of trees for other uses such as mining, drilling and logging.
