Hi, My name is Annie and I've always loved foxes, with their mysterious and mystical features. They keep a low profile as they sweep the streets at night. In Japanese legends, there is one mystical creature that captures my eye, ‘Kitsunes’, Japanese for the word ‘fox’. Kitsunes are magical foxes that can take any form or colour and their power is usually measured by the amount of tails they have. These legends made me completely fall in love with foxes and that’s why I made my art about these charming, sly creatures, ‘Foxes in Colour’. I started each of these drawings with just a rough pencil sketch and went over it with oil pastels for rich, vibrant colours. At first I’d only wanted to do one fox, the red fox. But when I was going to sleep that night I had an idea, a longing really, to do one in another colour. And so the very next day I created a blue fox. That’s when I realised how wonderful it would be if I made it into Pop Art. And so I made a black fox… and then a white fox, because not just one fox makes ‘Foxes in Colour’, but all of them together!
