The boys & girls in Mrs. Dunne’s 5th class have been learning all about Space and Our Solar System. As part of our learning, we explored the question: Are We Alone? The children shared wonderful opinions, thoughts and ideas about other planets and life outside of Earth. Our artwork was inspired by this question! Each child created their own planet and imagined alien life. The children created their planet using clay and bottle tops to create crevices, ridges, craters and depressions. The clay was then painted and a print taken on A4 paper. When the paint dried, a circular template was used to cut out the shape of the planet. The children used paper, paint and a straw and through the blow painting technique created their alien life. The alien life was then cut out. Each child’s black A3 card was their universe. Their planet and alien life became part of this universe, nestled in a galaxy of stars created using the splatter painting technique. We hope that you think our artwork is ‘Out of this World!’
