For this digital piece, I stepped out of my comfort zone by working without any outlines. I painted everything with my finger on Procreate and used different brushes to give the work a more painterly look. I chose my character, Citrus, because she loves bugs and nature, which linked well to this year’s theme. To show movement, I added leaves in the air and drew Citrus’s hair blowing in the same direction as the wind. I used warm colours for the main area of the piece and cooler colours for the insects to create contrast and highlight their shapes. I wanted to create a warm spring feeling and to showcase the diversity in nature through my colour choices. The work took me three days to complete, and I consider it one of my strongest pieces. The work suits the “This Is Nature” theme as it highlights the beauty of bugs, plants, and the natural environment through a personal character.
