16-18 Category • 2026For my art piece, I decided to make a mixed-media collage out of magazine paper scraps, buttons, tissue paper, string, COVID-19 restriction posters and coloured paper, all of which were recycled and used in my piece. I decided to do this because I thought it would be a great way to recycle scrap items and help the environment while creating a beautiful piece of art. I really enjoy nature, so I was happy with the theme and the idea of being able to help save the environment by creating my art. I used PVA glue to stick down my hand-torn and scissor-cut scrap items. I created 3D flowers, which added dimension to my piece and made it textured and unique. I twisted string to add petals and stems, and I also used old buttons to make the centres of some of the flowers. I was inspired by Megan Coyle’s art, her amazing collage work really caught my eye. She also does lots of work on nature and animals which ties in well with the theme. I thought it would be a good idea to make a collage with recyclable items and I am very happy with the way my art piece turned out.
