16-18 Category • 2026I took inspiration for this artwork from my pet cat, Merlin. I believe a cat is a perfect animal to represent the theme “This is nature”, because most cats are born with the natural instinct to hunt, an instinct needed in nature. However, I believe my cat also shows how nature has adapted to today’s world. He doesn’t need to hunt however he still does, showcasing his natural drive is still present In a world where nature is often overlooked and ignored. Cardboard and paper were used, to avoid harming the environment while constructing my sculpture. The piece was first built using basic shapes, like cylinders and cubes using cardboard. It was later refined with scrunched up paper, covered in tape. Lastly, covered in paper mache and foam clay.
