8-11 Category • 2026My painting is of a little robin sitting on a branch with red berries in winter. I painted this using acrylic paints on canvas. The white on the branches shows frost, not snow, as we don’t get much snow in Ireland. I made the sky blue, to show that it was a bright but cold and icy day, and it also makes the berries look brighter and (I hope) tastier for the robin. When people look at this painting, I’d like them to feel how cold and bare nature can be, but also to feel the joy of the bright colours that do exist in winter. This painting makes me really admire nature and its extreme changes, as well as the animals who are able to survive the very cold winter. I am proud of this painting, because I made use of some of the new techniques I was learning about in my art class and we were able to hang it in our house for Christmas.
