In the centre depicted is my mother drawn using the grid system to get the most accurate proportions possible. The background Is dark and hazy with a white rim outlining her silhouette. This is done to show the dream-like haze of looking back on a childhood memory. This is a sentiment to my mother and her love for the sea. Ever since I was a child, she would collect various seashells and rocks from different vacations and her collection is still ever growing. Created fully with pencil, this piece also depicts a fond childhood memory of mine. my mother always told me that if you put your ear to the shell, you could hear the sounds of crashing waves from your favourite beach. although these were small moments, They were significant ones where I truly connected with nature as a child. Still to this day, I listen for those waves when I pick up a seashell.
